Massage Therapy – What to Expect

Swedish Massage   A relaxing massage using light to medium pressure, which includes soothing strokes, and gentle kneading to promote a state of deep relaxation and leaves you with a sense of well-being.

Therapeutic Massage   Massage techniques are used to release severe stress, tension tight muscles, and knots.  Therapeutic massage focuses on reducing stiffness and minor pain with a goal of achieving more mobility.

Pre-Natal Swedish Massage  This massage is for every expectant mother with the special aches and pains that can arise during pregnancy.  The table is prepared with extra cushioning and support to provide luxurious comfort while caring hands knead away tension and increase circulation.

Hot Stone Massage  Stone massage involves the heated basalt stones of varying sizes to key points on the body, giving a deep massage and creating sensations of comfort and warmth. The direct heat relaxes muscles, allowing manipulation of a greater intensity than with regular massage. Especially beneficial to those suffering from rheumatic and arthritic conditions, muscular aches, sprains, and strains and back pain.

Deep Tissue Massage  An intense massage focusing on working out knots that build up over time from stress and overuse. Ideal for the sports minded person seeking a deep, strong massage.

Myofascial Release Therapy  (MFR) is a very effective hands-on technique that provides sustained pressure into Myofascial restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion (especially from injuries and after surgery).  This technique can be very relaxing when applied properly, and is often used in treating clients with Fibromyalgia or other chronic pain.   Trauma, such as a fall, whiplash, surgery or just habitual poor posture over time and repetitive stress injuries may cause the fascial system to exert excessive pressure in our bodies producing pain and/or restriction of motion.

Neuromuscular Therapy  (NMT) is a process of correcting imbalances in the musculature in order to reduce pain.  Postural distortion often occurs as a result of unilateral contractions of skeletal muscles.  Treatment is aimed at creating balance in order to reduce the damages that can be caused by unnecessary torque on the joints.  Treatment may include deep tissue work, trigger point therapy, and a mixture of muscle tissue manipulations, gentle stretches, and range-of-motion tests.  NMT is great for pain management, recovery from injuries and surgery.

Lymphatic Massage  A customized form of bodywork, lymphatic massage may help the lymph system do its job better. By understanding the anatomy and function of this delicate system, your massage therapist can assist your body in clearing sluggish tissues of waste and swelling. Lymph massage can benefit just about everyone. If you’re feeling tired and low on energy, or if you’ve been sick and feeling like your body is fighting to get back on track, lymph massage would likely serve you well. In addition, athletes, surgical patients, fibromyaliga and chronic fatigue sufferers, as well as those wanting a fresh look may want to consider lymphatic massage.
